Lauba's Workshops: Shapebook (7-14 years)

"I am made of everything I've seen." (Matisse)

Lauba's Shapebook is aimed at elementary school kids. It is performed as a half-year program dedicated to the ways of approaching an artwork, starting on Monday, September 3. It will be held every Monday at 19.00 until December 19. As the examples we will be using the artworks from Filip Trade Collection, and managers of the program are Aneta Mudronja and Tomislav Pletenac.

Art has always been a part of the society in which it is created. As much as the institutional framework tries to create a relationship with it, the inertia and insecurity of institutions result in an exclusively historical pedagogical approach towards art.  Today, still, contemporary art is not a part of a school curriculum. What is taught, are the canons, techniques, great masters and art history. However, a critical stand towards visual arts is not represented in the educational framework. That leads to a lack of understanding of contemporary art practices since their relationship towards history and the canon is very complicated, operating on several levels. The task of these workshops is to enable a framework in which kids would be offered a different approach to artwork through practical workshops. They will have to deal with various problems that the artists themselves had to face and find solutions for. That would lead to participants developing their own conceptual apparatus that would enable them a fresh view on the art of today.
