If we consider the fact that every picture speaks its own language, then the images from the series “Shuffle” don’t speak, but scream, argue, make peace, and mumble incoherently (but in a strict rhythm). Instead of offering an explanation or justification, they demand attention and openness from the viewer towards a nonchalant but precise approach to humanity. Jumping from one motif to another, Teo Kiš collects phenomena, people, animals, historical facts, and situations into one large interrelation. The essence of these images does not linger long in the territory of symbols and fixed meanings; it circulates in the whirlpool of free associations, changing shape depending on the viewer’s perspective.
Teo Kiš was born on May 11, 1998, in Zagreb. He graduated from the School of Applied Arts and Design in Zagreb and enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts (Graphic Department). He has had four solo exhibitions (Savski Gaj Library 2018, Lauba 2020, Lauba 2021, and Kraluš Gallery, Sv. Ivan Zelina 2022) and several group exhibitions (Flu Gallery, Belgrade 2022, K2 Gallery Križevci, Art&Grad – Art Spoke Out (Lauba, 2021), Art Zagreb – Nikola Tesla Technical Museum, 2021, Boutique Art Fair NESVRSTANI – Lauba (2021), Prica Gallery in Samobor (twice in 2018 and once in 2022), HDLU (Pay and Carry, 2019)). He illustrated two poetry collections (Ivanka Blažević Kiš, My Wife Writes Good Poetry, Semafora, 2018, Milko Kiš, I Played in the Worst Bars of This City, Semafora, 2019), one children’s book (Ivanka Blažević Kiš, Young Mr. Aqua, Studio Moderna, 2021), and the cover of a poetry collection (Ivanka Blažević Kiš, Modular Bird, Litteris, 2021). He painted murals in the library and in hospital and prison spaces (Dubec Library 2022, “Aestheticization of the Hospital Space” project at Rebro Hospital in 2021, and “Freedom of Creation” project in 2022).
