The House for People and Art is proud to announce the return of Ivana Franke, one of Croatia\u2019s most prominent artists, into its gallery space from April 20th until May 3rd with the exhibition \u2018Apercepcija\u2019. The artist, with a current Berlin address, will exhibit works from Lauba\u2019s collection \u2013 Center, Floor, Instants of Visibility (originally showcased at the Zagreb Art Pavilion and later in Rome and in France) and Latency, with which she individually represented Croatia at the 52nd Venice Biennale, as well as some newer and older works exclusively shipped from Berlin which are available for acquisition.<\/p>\n

The exhibition will be open from July 14th at 8 PM, until August 21st. The artist will be present at the opening, on July 14th!<\/strong><\/p>\n

A master of imposing and intricate spacial installations, whose projects are regularly exhibited within international institutions of an immense artistic caliber, Franke often expresses herself through constructivist and optical art and problematizes the relationship between reality, perception, and cognitive processes, relying on a strong neuroscience backbone. Through minimalist light installations in darkened ambients she symbolically tears down spatial borders and questions the viewer\u2019s mental processes when met with visual stimuli, and through the medium of drawing and graphics she engages in mathematical knowledge as one of the modes of truth of the world and space. By using transparent materials she opens up the possibility of doubt towards the accuracy of perception and calls upon illusory phenomena that make our understanding of spatial dimensions unclear, opening us up to the possibility that space exists independent of us, that its dimensions are far from static.<\/p>\n

Ivana Franke is the recipient of numerous awards, among those the yearly fine art award Josip Ra\u010di\u0107, and has been recognized by MoMA PS1 in New York, the Deutsche Guggenheim Museum in Berlin, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, the Museum of Old and New Art in Hobart, Tasmania, the Reykjavik Art Museum in Island and the Sharjah Art Foundation in The United Arab Emirates. She is the author of the magnificent installation \u2018Entanglement is a fragile state\u2019 in the \u00c9glise Saint-Nicolas de Caen church, a protected monument in Normandy, a site-specific installation at Manifest 7 in Bolzan, and the gigantic installation\u00a0 \u2018Room for Running Ghosts\u2019 with which she contributed to the creation of the first Croatian design hotel in Rovinj. She participated in residencies at the Institute for Spatial Experiments in Berlin, the Centre for Contemporary Art in Kitakyushu and is often invited to some of the most important international manifestations out of which it is important to point out the Shanghai Biennale and both the Architectural and Art Venice Biennale, at which she represented Croatia.<\/p>\n
