At Zrinjevac Park, the Zagreb version of Ivana Franke’s globally recognized installation “Resonance of the Unforeseen” has been set up

The music pavilion from 1891, located in the heart of one of the most representative parks in Croatia, in Zrinjevac, Zagreb, serves the public for social gatherings, cultural events, and photography. The image of the music pavilion is deeply rooted in the memory and everyday life of the citizens. However, such a visually powerful toponym is suddenly hidden and access to it is blocked.

Through the site-specific installation “Resonance of the Unforeseen,” Ivana Franke raises questions about the concept of public memory and the boundaries of visual reality, transforming the music pavilion into a public secret and adding new meaning to it. From a distance, the seemingly solid gray structure is nothing of the sort – it is actually a network with a drawing of vertical black and white stripes, and the material moves even with the slightest wind. As the visitor approaches the installation, they notice a subtle moiré effect, and the apparent solidity of the installation disappears. Franke reacts to the familiar appearance and collective memory – what has been remembered as the music pavilion has not disappeared for a month – it remains in memory all the time. After this exhibition, the public will perceive the well-known toponym of the pavilion from two perspectives.

The installation was initially set up on the facade of the Yokohama Museum of Art as part of the exhibition “Afterglow,” Yokohama Triennale 2020.

The exhibition organizer is LAUBA – House for People and Art. Ivana Franke’s spatial installation is part of the Zagreb art platform Artupunktura, a project of the Zagreb Tourist Board.

On Friday, October 13, at 5:00 pm, the artistic installation “Resonance of the Unforeseen” was ceremoniously opened around the music pavilion at Zrinjevac. You can see the installation at Zrinjevac until November 12, 2023.
