Ana Pintarić will present herself with charcoal drawings on paper in large formats. Charcoal, as the oldest medium, has been used since prehistory and came into wide use in the Renaissance era.

Ana Pintarić uses charcoal to obtain rich tones with a high degree of contrast. In the same composition, we find motifs that the author describes: “In the Realm of Arrangement of Art Compositions, I am the emperor and the motifs are my subjects. The emperor is not interested in where the motives come from, their desires and fears, whether they know each other and agree, or whether they are contextually close or far. They are forced to share the cramped space of white paper and, crucially, find a common language. They were forced to consolidate. They are forced to do hard work “in the mine” in the joint maintenance of a story, a narrative, a whole, an image.

Charcoal is a highly reversible and versatile drawing medium that allows a high degree of expressiveness with minimal technical requirements, and its use inspires spontaneous drawing with soft and uneven outlines and endures frequent interventions. Despite all these advantages, charcoal as a medium is still most often used as a tool for preparatory work, so it is a particular discovery that our young author allows it absolute primacy in her work: “The Empire of Charcoal Drawing is, however, a real utopia: strict reductions, meticulousness, attentive and inattentive stains, empty spaces, wrong strokes…”
