SEDER & TADIĆ

Y Gallery, Ljubljana

July 11 – September 3, 2024.

On Thursday, July 11, 2024, the SEDER & TADIĆ exhibition by LAUBA opened in Ljubljana’s Y GALLERY.

Lauba – House for People and Art, for the hot summer in Ljubljana, has chosen the works of two Croatian artists of different generations and expressions – the excellent Đuro Seder and Marko Tadić.

With vital, strong, and expressive brushstrokes full of intense color, Đuro Seder (1927, Zagreb – 2022, Zagreb) recorded sacred motifs, landscapes, and communication between people. In his nearly century-long life, he was constantly creating – he worked as a technical editor and graphic designer in numerous magazines, taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, where he was dean from 1983 to 1987, and wrote poetry. He was a member of the art anti-group, a group without a goal, Gorgona. He exhibited independently from 1958 until his death, and his work earned him numerous awards. He called himself “some kind of figurative artist”, and others called him a representative of the new wave of contemporary Croatian expressionism, therefore Lauba is exhibiting six oils on canvas precisely of the figurative expressionism of Đura Seder.

Marko Tadić (1979, Sisak) is a Croatian multidisciplinary artist of the new generation whose work, like Seder’s, has been crowned with all the most important awards in art and culture, and in 2017, together with Tina Gverović, he represented Croatia at the 57th Venice Biennale. We are talking about an artist whose work is often, rightly, claimed to be one of the most interesting moments in contemporary Croatian art – Tadić produces drawings, photographs, animated films, installations, and collages. Lauba brings Tadić’s recognizable collages to Gallery Y, with motifs that have remained consistent for some time – he collages his fascination with the idea of urbanism of modern and post-war utopian architecture with old photographs he finds at Zagreb flea markets, in which he intervenes with drawing and in this way creates a new micro-world and only treasure indicated possible story.

The exhibition will be open until September 3, 2024.
